The sequel to Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings has been on and off for a while now, but new reports say it is back on the production schedule meaning it is in active development.
Originally announced for a February 14, 2025 release, Fantastic Four took over that slot leaving Shang-Chi 2 in limbo. However Marvel is now saying the sequel is planned for a 2025 release as part of the MCU Phase 5 just kicked off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and an official announcement is expected soon.
The film will again star Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Meng’er Zhang though no plot details are available yet. It is expected to come before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty with both films to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. This would mean Shang-Chi 2 release date should fall somewhere between February and May 2025 and most likely with put Shang-Chi in a direct battle with Kang.
This would also set up Shang-Chi as a candidate to lead the charge against Kang in the final battle, especially if Kang is the protagonist of the sequel. With Tony Stark and Steve Rogers both out of the Avengers, fan speculation has had Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as the front runner for the leader role, but we could easily see Shang-Chi stepping up even if as a co-leader of the Avengers.
