HBO has officially unveiled the young actors stepping into the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley for its upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series. Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton takes on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. The casting follows an extensive search that saw over 30,000 children auditioning for the parts.
Dominic McLaughlin is a Scottish actor known for his role in the Sky comedy series Grow. Arabella Stanton has a strong background in theater. She played the role of Matilda Wormwood in the West End production of Matilda The Musical from September 2023 to March 2024. Additionally, she portrayed the character Control in Starlight Express at Wembley from June to September 2024. Her training includes time at the Guildford School of Acting, the British Theatre Academy, and Aldance. Alastair Stout is a newcomer to the screen, with the Harry Potter series marking his first major acting role. He is represented by Urban Talent Actors Management.

Joining the trio is John Lithgow, who has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, the wise and complex headmaster of Hogwarts. Lithgow, an acclaimed actor with a career spanning decades, expressed enthusiasm about the role, noting that it will “define the last chapter” of his life.
Additional cast members include Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. The series aims to provide a faithful adaptation of the original novels, with each season dedicated to one book, allowing for a more in-depth exploration of the storylines and characters.
Filming is scheduled to begin in the summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, with the series expected to premiere in 2026.
