Is Cal Kestis Coming to Disney+

The beloved Star Wars Jedi protagonist, Cal Kestis, is reportedly set to make the leap from video games to live-action in an upcoming Disney+ series. Though the details remain vague, the news has been met with excitement by fans of the Star Wars Jedi video games. This rumor suggests that Disney might have big plans for Cal Kestis, but whether this means he will have his own show or simply make a cameo in another series is still unclear.

Given the timeline of the games, which are set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it seems unlikely that Cal will appear in shows like The Mandalorian or Ahsoka, which occur after Return of the Jedi. Instead, it’s speculated that he could make an appearance in another series set closer to the events of the Star Wars Jedi games, such as Andor, which takes place in 5 BBY—only a few years after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

For me, this news is incredibly exciting! As someone who has played both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, I absolutely love Cal Kestis as a character. The games brought something really special to the Star Wars universe, blending action, puzzles, and an emotional storyline. Cameron Monaghan, who has portrayed Cal in the games, has done an incredible job of making him a multi-dimensional character that you can root for. His journey from a Jedi in hiding to a true Force-wielding hero was full of compelling twists, battles, and unforgettable moments. Seeing all of that come to life in a live-action format could be a dream come true.

The thought of Cal Kestis stepping into the broader Star Wars live-action universe opens up so many possibilities. Not only would it be a treat for fans of the video games, but it would also be a major moment for Star Wars to bridge the gap between its different media forms. Considering the acclaim that both Fallen Order and Survivor received, Cal’s live-action debut could easily become a standout moment for Disney+.

Moreover, Cameron Monaghan’s portrayal of Cal—his expressive acting and his ability to embody the character’s vulnerability, strength, and wit—makes him an ideal candidate to reprise the role. It just wouldn’t feel right if anyone else portrayed Cal in live-action. Bringing Monaghan in to play Cal again would add authenticity and continuity that fans, including myself, are craving.

In the games, we’ve already seen Cal fight Inquisitors, explore ancient Jedi temples, and come face-to-face with the dark side. Translating this into a series could give us more insight into his struggles during the dark times of the Empire. There’s also so much potential to explore his relationship with other key figures of the rebellion or even with familiar faces from the Star Wars saga. Imagine Cal encountering a young Leia, another surviving Jedi, or even getting involved in some of Saw Gerrera’s more extreme missions. The possibilities are endless and thrilling to think about.

Whether it’s a standalone Disney+ series or an appearance in an existing show, Cal Kestis joining the live-action lineup could enrich the Star Wars lore in a significant way. The combination of Cameron Monaghan’s talent, the compelling story of a lost Jedi finding his way, and the overarching struggles of a galaxy under Imperial rule could make for a truly epic narrative. For now, all we can do is hope these rumors prove true—and as a fan of both Star Wars and these incredible games, I’m eagerly waiting for that official announcement.
