Nichelle Nichols has left us

I am saddened to learn of the passing of actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, best known of course as Uhura from the original Star Trek series and movies on July 30, 2020.

Her son, Kyle Johnson, posted the announcement below on her official Facebook page stating she passed peacefully in her sleep.

Nichols broke many racial barriers including sharing the first bi-racial kiss on TV with co-star William Shatner. Her role as Uhura and later as a NASA ambassador inspired many young women to pursue careers in science and space exploration. She was also an accomplished singer and civil rights advocate.

I hope she is now flying high amongst the stars. RIP dear lady.
