Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fails to set records

With very mixed reviews, The Rise of Skywalker failed to rise above The Force Awakens at the box office raking in $176 million over it’s weekend debut.

The ninth and final Skywalker installment fell shy of the opening records set by The Force Awakens ($248 million) and The Last Jedi ($220 million), though beat many other films released this year.

Internationally, The Rise of Skywalker has earned $374 million.

While the box office wasn’t bad, reviews are another thing with many critics loving it and fans very split giving it only a 57% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just 4 points higher than The Phantom Menace.

Set a year after The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker follows the resistance trying to recover from the devastating Battle of Crait with Emperor Palpatine’s surprise return as leader of the Sith throwing more issues at our heroes. It was written and directed by JJ Abrams.

I was one of those who saw the film on opening day and actually enjoyed it – my review is coming soon. Did you see it? What did you think?
