The first two episodes of Agatha: All Along on Disney+ are a solid entry into the ever-expanding MCU. Fans of WandaVision will find themselves right at home, as the show picks up with Agatha Harkness, still reeling from the events in Westview. Kathryn Hahn, who stole every scene in WandaVision, returns in full force, blending her signature dark humor with the eerie, magical world that Marvel’s created for her.
The plot kicks off with Agatha trying to regain her powers after being stripped by Wanda. And the show wastes no time jumping into action. Right from episode one, we’re introduced to the mysterious Teen (played by Joe Locke), who joins Agatha on a quest to assemble a coven and travel the infamous Witches’ Road. The chemistry between Hahn and Locke is fun to watch, with the Teen’s youthful curiosity providing a great foil to Agatha’s sarcastic and sometimes cynical nature.
What’s exciting about Agatha: All Along is that it expands on the magical lore hinted at in Doctor Strange and WandaVision, taking viewers deeper into the supernatural side of the MCU. Episode two really digs into that lore, introducing a range of new witches like Lilia Calderu (played by the legendary Patti LuPone) and Jennifer Kale. These characters bring their own unique abilities and backstories to the table, adding depth to the magical universe Marvel has been slowly building.
One standout moment is when the coven sings “Down the Witches’ Road,” a haunting song that perfectly sets the mood for the trials ahead. It’s one of those moments where you feel like the MCU is expanding beyond the typical superhero formula, incorporating more mystical and eerie elements, much like WandaVision did with sitcoms. And for Marvel fans, there are plenty of Easter eggs and references to keep you intrigued.
While the series has its lighter, campy moments, especially with Hahn’s witty portrayal of Agatha, it also sets up some serious stakes. The Salem Seven, hinted at in these early episodes, seems to be a looming threat, and the tension between Agatha and Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) is one to watch.
Overall, Agatha: All Along offers a fresh take on the MCU, with its witchy, mystical vibe standing out from the usual superhero fare. For fans of WandaVision, it’s a must-watch, and for anyone who loves the more magical elements of Marvel, this show feels like it’s setting the stage for something even bigger. Can’t wait to see where this Witches’ Road takes us!
