The CW has announced they are working with Jensen and Danneel Ackles’ production company to create The Winchesters, a prequel series of Supernatural based on Dean and Sam’s parents. The project is currently in development with Jensen Ackles (Dean in the long-running series) is executive producer and will also serve as the narrator of the new show.
The Winchesters, is written/executive produced by former Supernatural co-producer Robbie Thompson.
The series will focus on John and Mary Winchester (previously played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (seated left) and Samantha Smith (seated right)), parents of Sam (right) and Dean (left) who were the leads of Supernatural (played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen respectively). Bits and pieces of their back-story were revealed during the 15-season run of Supernatural, but the new show will give us the full story before Mary was killed by a demon making John become a hunter turning his sons into monster hunters in the process.
There is no word right now if Padelecki will be involved at all if the series goes forward, though he will have a second season as Walker on the CW series. Jensen Ackles is currently featured in season 3 of Amazon’s The Boys as Soldier Boy.
