Not surprisingly, Walt Disney World Theme Park is planning to add attractions based on Star Wars and 2 of it’s other big hit attractions, Frozen and Toy Story. They gave previews during a media event on April 20 with sneak peeks at several attractions opening as early as this summer.
The Frozen Ever After attraction is currently under construction in, appropriately enough, Epcot’s Norway Pavilion. It is set to open this June and will be a boat tour through Arendelle as guests participate in a “Winter in Summer” celebration based on a newly created story that takes place after the film. Guests will also be able to meet Anna and Elsa in the Royal Somerhaus location. New music by Frozen composers Bobby and Kristen Anderson-Lopez was commissioned for the attractions.
Star Wars is probably the most highly anticipated, at least for us adults. No opening date has been announced yet, but it will be 2018 at least. It will be built at the current Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
Watch the preview presentation below.
Toy Story surprised me the most since it hasn’t had a new film in a while – seems like they would have already done that one, but oh well, they all look and sound interesting with Frozen and Toy Story obviously aimed more at children.
Toy Story Land will have at least 2 new locations, including a kid-friendly roller coaster named Slinky the Dog Dash (watch concept animation below). The other is a Alien Swirling Saucers based on the “The Claw” machine from toy Story 2.
Pandora – The World of Avatar is also still on track to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2017. Not a lot is known about this one yet.
I actually haven’t been to Disney World in years and live only about an hour away (I know, I’m a slacker!) – I will definitely go once Star Wars Land opens if not before. Spreading these new Sci-fi themed attractions across several parks seems a way to make us visit all of them giving Disney maximum dollars – something that can definitely break our vacation budget.
