Adding to its roster of original content, Netflix will produce a limited series based on The Witcher video games. Henry Cavill (Superman vs. Batman), who is a big fan of the games and was pushing hard to play a role in the show, has landed the role of Geralt.
Based on novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and the games by CD Projekt, the 8-episode series focuses on Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a monster hunter who prefers the monsters he is sworn to destroy to man. He gets involved in a quest with a powerful sorceress and a young princess who holds a dangerous secret. The three have to learn to work together to complete the quest and survive.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the executive products and showrunner. Lined up to direct are Alik Sakharov (for 4 episodes including the pilot), Garcia Lopez and Charlotte Brandstrom.
