It’s no secret I adore Joss Whedon – from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer to my favorite, Firefly, I’m a fan. So it’s great seeing him get major kudos for helming the blockbuster The Avengers (which I admit, I haven’t seen yet.)
Work has already begun on a script for the second film, and while Whedon has been careful not to give away any specific plot points, he can at least hint at some of the themes he plans to explore in part two.
“The creation of the team is not the happy ending,” he said. “It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I’m digging, just twist that knife. And that’s exciting for me.”
Overseeing the Phase 2 projects, Whedon will not write or direct them himself, but he believes the series of films Whedon to be in very safe hands.
“Very talented people are writing and directing these movies, and what I don’t want to be is the guy they dread, who’s going to come in and say, “Oh, well I have the power to change this.” I’m not that.”
The Phase 2 projects, announced this summer at Comic-Con, are They are: Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013); Thor: The Dark World (Nov. 8, 2013); Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014); Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014); and Ant-Man (TBD). More news on these to come.
