The “Avengers” helmer is heading up a Science Channel panel celebrating the 10th anniversary of his short-lived but beloved “space western” about a crew of bandits, or Browncoats, who commit all manner of unlawful activity aboard their rundown spaceship, “Serenity.” (Also the title of a follow-up film based on the Fox TV series.)
Joining Whedon and Fillion (now starring in “Castle”) are co-executive producer Tim Minear and castmembers Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Michael Fairman and “the rest of the crew of the ‘Serenity,'” promises the network. (No word yet on whether that includes Gina Torres, now on “Suits,” “Homeland’s” Morena Baccarin or Summer Glau.)
Attendees will also be treated to never-before-seen “Firefly” footage and “numerous buzz-worthy surprises” at the panel, scheduled for Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20.
The Science Channel airs in syndication all of “Firefly’s” 14 episodes — unlike FOX, who infamously showed only 11 episodes of the original series, out of their intended sequence. The network’s bizarre programming was ultimately blamed for the series’ low ratings and cancellation.
